Meal Plan Monday

Meal planning is a super helpful way for our family to stay on track with eating (relatively) healthy and at home all week long. We have such a busy weeknight schedule - every night has something for someone and someplace for someone to be.  So meal planning it is.....

The First Calf of the Year

Meet Puzzle.

She's our first calf of the year.

Baby Bunnies!

The Farmer and I used to raise meat rabbits years ago, but gave it up.  I had four little ones under the age of 5 and was working full time.  He was working full time and teaching through the summer and we just couldn't keep up.  So we let it go.

Then we started 4H.  And the kids saw the bunnies.  And decided we needed some.

We hadn't really gotten around to looking into rabbits.  Then our sheep guy (the sheep superintendent for fair who is also the ag teacher at the ISD) called us up and said that he had some rabbits for us - for free!

Homemade Laundry Soap

Laundry.
Ugh.
It never ends, does it?

I was thinking about laundry last night as I was folding a load that had sat in the dryer for a couple of days and re-washing the load in the washer.  I'm ashamed to say that this isn't an uncommon occurrence at our homestead.  I've tried several different systems for doing and keeping up with laundry, but it seems that what works now doesn't work then.

Anyway, as I was getting things going (there is a light at the end of this week's laundry tunnel - only three loads left in the laundry room!) I realized that I am almost out of laundry soap.

So I got to thinking about laundry.

An Almost Spring-like February

The past week here in Michigan, it's been positively spring-like!  The warmer temperatures sure have everyone on the farm ready to be done with winter.  In fact, my boys were even in shorts this past weekend!  That's a Michigan-kid for you....once it hits 45 degrees and sunshine, the shorts come out!

Thing #3 mucking out the sheep pen.
The Farmer in the sheep pen.

We took advantage of the nice days to do a bit of early "spring-cleaning" on one of our properties.  We cleaned out the chicken coop, mucked out the sheep and rabbits, opened windows, and cleaned out the flower beds of the muck to get ready for spring planting and growing - Not too much though, we did leave the straw over the plants......it is February after all!!

Looks like spring!

2016 on the Farm.....in pictures!

So I found this post in my drafts from December.....guess I never posted it!  So anyway, here are some pictures of our farmlife from 2016 - working backwards from December to January.
